Greece receives € 372 mln from 5G frequencies auction
The Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) has completed the tender process for right to use radio frequencies in the 700 MHz, 2 GHz, 3400-3800 MHz and 26 GHz bands. The auction prices accepted by EETT amounts to a total of € 372 mln.

After six bidding rounds, the following companies were granted the rights to use different radio frequencies:
COSMOTE Mobile Telecommunications SA,
VODAFONE PANAFON Hellenic Telecommunications Company
WIND Hellas Telecommunications SA.
The following participating radio frequency divisions were awarded to the 3 participating companies:
COSMOTE
15 sections in the band of 3400-3800 MHz with a price of € 30 mln
2 segments in the 700 MHz band with a price of € 50 mln
4 sections in the 2 GHz band at a price of € 35 mln
2 sections in the 26 GHz band with a price of € 6 mln euros
Total price: € 123 mln
VODAFONE
14 segments in the 3400-3800 MHz band with a price of € 37 mln
2 sections in the 700 MHz band with a price of € 51 mln
4 sections in the 2 GHz band at a price of € 35 mln
2 sections in the 26 GHz band with a price of €6 mln
Total price: € 130 mln
WIND
10 parts in the band of 3400-3800 MHz with a price of € 30 mln
2 sections in the band of 700 MHz with a price of € 50 mln
4 sections in the 2 GHz band at a price of € 35 mln
1 segment in the 26 GHz band at a price of € 3 mln
Total price: € 119 mln
According to EETT, the successful completion of the auction is expected to offer significant benefits for the electronic communications market in Greece. The development of 5G networks is expected to radically affect s wide range of economic and social life, accelerating the country’s digital transformation, improving business competitiveness and contributing to economic development.
According to Kathimerini, COSMOTE and WIND have teamed up with Ericsson to secure the necessary technology for the 5G networks.
It is noted that Greece will use the proceeds from the auction to help cut its debt and offer funds to startups that will develop 5G products and services.
