Greece's Ministry of Culture announced in 2024 a premium tourism initiative offering visitors the opportunity to experience the Acropolis landmark outside normal public opening hours. The exclusive two-hour tours are available between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., before the archaeological site opens to the public, and 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., after regular visiting hours. Priced at € 5,000 per group, each private tour accommodates a maximum of five people and is available in seven languages: English, French, German, Greek, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
The initiative responds to growing demand for luxury travel experiences while offering visitors the rare opportunity to explore one of the world's most iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites without the crowds. With 4,6 million visitors in 2025, the Acropolis remained Greece's most visited archaeological site, and the exclusive tours are providing visitors seeking privacy with a unique, crowd-free experience.
The pilot programme has also proven to be a commercial success. International interest in the exclusive experience has grown steadily, with 72 personalised private tours booked during 2025. Demand has continued to increase in 2026, with 80 reservations already confirmed by the start of the summer season, underlining the growing appeal of high-end cultural tourism and exclusive access to one of the world's most celebrated archaeological landmarks.
According to official data compiled by the Hellenic Statistical Authority and the Ministry of Culture, archaeological sites and museums across Greece generated a combined € 244.6 million in ticket revenue during 2025, reflecting the country's growing cultural tourism sector and the introduction of a revised ticket pricing policy. Revenue generated from the exclusive tours held outside normal opening hours will be reinvested in the protection, conservation and promotion of Greece's cultural heritage.
