Greek passenger traffic decreases by 68.9% in the first nine months of 2020

According to the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), passenger traffic through Greece airports decreased by 68.9% in the first nine months of 2020. This is due to the travel restrictions and wider uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Athens, Greece: 19 October 2020

A total of 16.6 mln passengers passed through Greek airports in January-September this year. It is 69% less when compared to 53.4 mln passengers in the same period last year.

According to Greek Travel Pages, Greek airports operated 195,762 flights in the first nine months of the year including:

  • 96,605 domestic flights

  • 99,157 international flights

It shows a 55% decline when compared to the same period in 2019 when Greek airports operated 433,320 flights.

In September 2020, Greek passenger traffic decreased by 63% to 3,149,471 passengers, compared to 8,523,771 passengers in September 2019.

According to Greek Travel Pages, the total number of flights in September was 34,582. It shows a 46.7% decline compared to 64,906 flights in September 2019.
