Greece will open for tourism on 19 April 2021

The Greek government has announced the easing of restrictions for incoming tourism starting 19 April 2021. A local lockdown, however, remains in place. It is expected that this will be lifted from approximately 15 May 2021.

Athens, Greece: 15 April 2021

The Greek government has differentiated itself from the European Commission (which remains unable to reach decisions between Member States due to domestic coordination issues. As of 19 April 2021, Greece announced that it re-opened for travelers from:

  • All EU member states

  • The United States

  • The United Kingdom

  • Serbia

  • Israel

  • The United Arab Emirates

Travelers from those countries will be able to enter Greece without having to undergo mandatory quarantine after arrival if:

  • They have proof of vaccination

  • Or present a negative PCR test performed less than three days prior to their trip.

According to the Reuters news agency, airports located in the following destinations will be open to travelers from those countries:

  • Athens

  • Thessaloniki

  • Crete: Heraklion and Chania

  • Rhodes

  • Kos

  • Mykonos

  • Santorini

  • Corfu

Greek Travel Pages reminds that the lockdown restrictions in Greece are still in place. These include a curfew, a limit on the number of times circulation outside the residence is permitted, and a block on travel between districts in Greece. Therefore, travelers coming to Greece are obliged to follow all the rules as Greek citizens do.

Later announcements indicate that the Greek Government is planning a fuller relaxation of the domestic lockdown rules as early as 15 May 2021.
